In a 40 year career Neil Jones has worked in both external and internal communications in a wide range of industries ranging from marine electronics, the motor industry, brewing through to oil & gas. Based in Scotland, he has extensive experience in crisis management within the oil & gas and commercial explosives industries.
He has provided 24/7 media response cover for several oil industry operating companies, including Hess, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Total and Maersk and has handled many incidents including fatalities, helicopter ditching’s and the single largest non-fatality blow-out incident in North Sea production history.
Since 1999 he has provided reputation and crisis management consultancy services to business and the arts, as well as working as a journalist and critic. Over the past few years he has undertaken assignments for organisations as diverse as BP, Shell, 3M and the City of London Sinfonia.
A keen traveler, training, consultancy and journalism assignments in recent years have taken him to Abu Dhabi, Austria, Bahrain, the Czech Republic, Dubai, Finland, Hong Kong, Italy, Iceland, Lebanon, Norway, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Thailand and the USA.
Neil also works as a tutor on a variety of corporate communication courses in the UK. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Internal Communications and an Accredited Practitioner Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). He has trained regularly for CIPR and was a member of their Approved Trainer scheme from its inception 2003 to its conclusion in late 2012.
For 12 years to the end of 2014, he was also a non-executive director (and latterly vice-chairman) of Aberdeen Performing Arts Limited, the $15 million turnover charitable status company that manages the three main performing arts venues in Aberdeen, Scotland, chairing their HSE and HR board subcommittees. He now serves as a Panel Member on the Children’s Hearings System, Scotland’s unique care and justice system for children and young people.
